It’s six degrees Fahrenheit this morning in Arvada, Colorado, and I had to park my car outside. Overnight, it snowed five inches. I know that many of you park your car outside and clear snow off of it in the morning in subfreezing temps all the time. But when you’re not used to it, like I am, it’s torture. Especially when you can’t find your gloves.

To make matters worse, I could have parked my car in our cozy garage had it not been for our contractor storing two sheets of excess drywall in it. They were left over from our ongoing and excruciatingly slow remodel project. “We’ll have this project done in six weeks,” Rich proclaimed with supreme confidence at the beginning.

Right.

Those two sheets of drywall have been in our garage for weeks. “I’ll have Victor get them tomorrow,” he told me two days ago. Once again I believed him. But it turns out Victor doesn’t pick up drywall in the snow.

At first I didn’t mind parking outside. After all, it’s October in Denver and we rarely get snow this time of year. But last night was our third October snowstorm and yesterday’s high was a “record low high” of 16 degrees. Apparently, the Arctic has decided to move to Denver.

Parking outside and clearing the snow off my car again and again in single digit temps with no gloves on just because there are two slabs of drywall in the garage got to me this morning. “I’m just going to break up that drywall and put it in the trash,” I decided. “I’ll tell Rich after the fact. So there!”

But did you know that the Holy Spirit is concerned about drywall? Or I’m thinking he’s probably more concerned about Rich. “You know, you could be more diplomatic about it,” I sensed him telling me.

“Okay, well, yes. I suppose I could be more diplomatic about it.”

So here’s the text I’m sending Rich right now. “Hey Rich. It’s cold out and I’m getting tired of parking our car outside and clearing snow off of it. Do you mind if I break up the drywall in our garage today and put it in the trash so we can park inside?”

There, I sent it.

Thank you, Holy Spirit.

Now where are those gloves?
