For several years I’ve been on the advisory board for The Life of a Single Mom, founded by Jennifer Maggio. I’ve watched with great enthusiasm as this ministry has become the nation’s leading single mom ministry. I think it’s time all of my readers know about TLSM.

When Jennifer was very young, her mother was killed in a car accident. This tragedy eventually led to homelessness, abuse, and multiple teen pregnancies. By age 19, Jennifer was pregnant and living in government housing and food stamps.

But the Lord turned her life around and she wound up becoming a successful, award winning business woman in corporate America. But Jennifer never forgot her experience as a single mother. Her burden for single moms led her to leave the business world and start The Life of a Single Mom.

The purpose of TLSM is to educate churches and other organizations on the needs of single mothers. TLSM also seeks to directly address the concrete needs of single mothers. The Life of a Single Mom establishes support groups for single parents and provides programming for single parents that promote successin parenting, finances, and health & wellness.

TLSM’s Single Mom Universityis an online, self-paced educationprogram that equips single mothers with tools to improve economic opportunities, parent well, and thrive in a variety of areas. Single Mom University utilizes national experts to teach short classes with corresponding quizzes to assess retention, optional homework, and even additional resources for continued learning. Single Mom University is perfect for single moms of all stages of life and ministry leaders who work with single mothers. Their Ministry Leaders Corner includes best practices on group facilitation, how to avoid burnout, event planning, and more.

Herb has served as President of New Commandment since 2003 and has helped 1,000 churches develop men's team ministries in all 50 states and eight foreign countries. Herb and his wife, Patti, live in Arvada, Colorado, and have three adult children.
