What America Would Look Like if Every Church Had a Men’s Team Ministry

Sharing is caring!

2010-07-19 16.21.07One of my goals in life is to see the day when men’s team ministry to their widowed and single parents becomes standard practice in every church in America, if not the world. Like Sunday School, bulletins and offering plates, men’s team ministry, or something like it, would be just one of the assumed things that churches do.

So what would it look like if every church in America had a men’s team ministry? Knowing what we now know from fourteen years of experience helping over 900 churches start men’s team ministries, a typical church has 20 men on 5 teams serving 7 adult care receivers. (Many churches have more care receivers than teams because some teams serve multiple care receivers.)

Most estimates peg the number of churches in America at around 300,000. Therefore, given the averages we’re seeing with men’s team ministry, if every church in America had one, there would be 6 million men on 1.5 million teams serving 2.1 million widowed and single parents. If we add the number of care givers to the number of care receivers, the total adults involved in the ministry would be over 8 million, or 2.4% of the population of the US!

And not only that, but those 6 million men would be serving their care receivers on 2.1 million blocks every month for years. Virtually impossible to ignore, they would be in every city, town, hamlet and neighborhood in America. What a testimony to the love of Christ! And what an opportunity for evangelism!

Forgive me if I get a little emotional. But it really is exciting to think about. Will you pray with me that this vision will become reality? That the love of Christ will be poured out in our churches and in our communities? That the needs of their widowed and single parents in our congregations will be taken seriously? And that the watching world will see the efficacy of Christ’s love and come to faith in Him as a result?

And by the way, has your church started it’s own men’s team ministry?
