If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll realize that nothing I’m about to say here is new. Nevertheless, it’s important to stop and summarize what New Commandment Men’s Ministries seeks to achieve with men’s team ministry. In short, we have five simple goals:
- Demonstrate the uniqueness and efficacy of the love of Christ – Christ’s love is unique because, when we practice it, it marks us out as his followers. And Christ’s love is effective because it motivates us to identify with, commit to, and sacrifice for others in need just as Christ identified with us, committed to us, and sacrificed for us in our time of need. (John 13:34-35)
- Meet ongoing pressing needs – The presence of the love of Christ in the local church means that all pressing needs in the body of believers are being addressed. This love naturally extends to others with pressing needs outside the church as well. Those with pressing needs are often the widowed and single parents. Since these types of needs can last for years, a consistent, effective, and long term approach is required. New Commandment Men’s Ministries suggests using teams of men who regularly serve their care receivers as a way of addressing these long term needs. (1 John 3:14-16)
- Encourage healthy and vibrant men’s ministry in the local church – Men’s team ministry to their widowed and single parents is an important aspect of men’s ministry because it gives men a practical way to express their faith through good works. But men’s team ministry is only one aspect of men’s ministry. Thus, New Commandment Men’s Ministries encourages churches to balance men’s team ministry with other aspects of men’s ministry that address men’s spiritual, emotional and relational needs, such as Bible study, support groups, and men’s conferences. (Matthew 28:19-20)
- Bring glory to God – When properly executed, men’s team ministry creates a “wow factor” in those who witness godly men carrying out their biblical mandate to humbly and faithfully serve those in need. (Matthew 5:16)
- Draw people to saving faith in Jesus Christ – The natural outcome of men’s team ministry to their widowed and single parents is seeing family members, friends, and neighbors of those involved come to faith in Christ. (Acts 6:1-7)
So there you have it: five simple, but profound goals that are worthy of any church’s men’s ministry.

Since 2003 New Commandment Men’s Ministries has helped hundreds of churches throughout North American and around the world recruit teams of men who permanently adopt their widowed and single parents in their congregations for the purpose of donating two hours of service to them one Saturday morning each month. We accomplish this with a free training site called New Commandment Men’s Ministry
