How John Reese Was Born Again

Sharing is caring!

John Reese

I am the youngest of five children. My late oldest brother was severely mentally handicapped. My three other siblings are 15, 12 and 6 years older than I. Our mother and father, Ben and Marguerite Reese, were godly Christians who took us to church every week and held daily family devotions.

I’ll never forget my father kneeling with me beside my bed and teaching me how to pray. Missionaries stayed in our home. Renowned preachers like J. Vernon McGee, Louis Talbot, and John G. Mitchell ate at our dinner table. Jesus Christ was the center of our home in every way. As a result, two of my siblings became missionaries. I became a pastor. My brother John became a successful man but, sadly, very adamantly rejected Christianity.

Though my family prayed for John for decades, I have to admit, in spite of all of our prayers, I came to believe that, of all the people in the world, the last person who would become a Christian was John.

But God, “who causes light to shine out of darkness,” caused his light to shine in John’s heart and he came to faith in Christ at the age of 39. I have never known anyone more transformed by the gospel than my brother John. Here, in his own words, is his story.
