Intergenerational Ministry: Another New Promise Keepers Emphasis

Sharing is caring!

In my last post I wrote about how Promise Keepers will be forming teams of men “in communities everywhere” next year at its men’s conference and worldwide simulcast at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

Today, I want to mention another new PK emphasis at this upcoming event: intergenerational ministry.

Intergenerational ministry has been a huge emphasis of my good friend and fellow men’s ministry worker, Dr. Chuck Stecker, founder of A Chosen Generation. Chuck’s core message is that churches tend to isolate generations into silo ministries such as children, youth, young adults, married and single, and retired.

The problem is that each generation has much to offer the other. By isolating these ministries, the generations lose that benefit. What the church needs to do instead is figure out ways to integrate these ministries so that the generations can again discover how to relate to each other.

Chuck has worked closely with PK over the years and it looks like its taking his advice on how to facilitate intergenerational ministry. The article announcing Promise Keepers’ plans for Dallas in 2020 states that an aspect of the new era of Promise Keepers is “the prospect of drawing multiple generations to the AT&T Stadium event.” Then the article quotes Judge Vance, COO of PK:

“One of the most powerful benefits of Promise Keepers is the ability for sons, fathers, and grandfathers to experience the event together. While Baby Boomers remember this with fondness, today’s Millennials, who are coming into their own as husbands, fathers, and in their careers, long to have the same experience with their own fathers. That’s why tickets for the AT&T Stadium event will reflect a significant discount for intergenerational groups.”

Praise the Lord! It’s a blessing to see how smaller men’s ministries like mine and Chucks have had an influence on such a renowned ministry like Promise Keepers.
