Men’s Ministry Ideas for Service Projects

Sharing is caring!

One high impact men's ministry idea is to take men to a disaster area.

When evaluating new men’s ministry ideas for service projects, time is a valuable commodity for most Christian men. So when you invite the men in your men’s ministry to participate in a service project, they are probably going to wonder if it’s worth their time.

As a men’s ministry leader, you must respond to this concern by planning service projects that have “high impact.”

By high impact, I mean service projects that are biblical, bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ, open up natural opportunities to share the gospel, provide lasting solutions to the problems and needs in the life of the person or people they will be doing the service project for, and result in a deeper walk with Christ in their own lives.

That is a tall order! But service projects of this nature will not only persuade your men that the project is worth their time, high impact men’s ministry service projects will convince them that they are some of the best ways they could possibly spend their time.

With this in mind, here are four men’s ministry ideas for high impact service projects.

Challenge Your Men to Meet Every Long Term Pressing Need in Your Church as One of its Main Service Projects

Scripture commands us to do this in Titus 3:14, “Let our people learn to engage in good deeds, to meet pressing needs.”

While this may seem like an overwhelming task, hundreds of men’s ministry groups in churches across America are successfully meeting their church’s pressing needs.

New Commandment Men’s Ministries helps churches recruit teams of men who adopt their widowed and single parents. You can learn more about how your men’s ministry can do this by reading Best Practices for Starting a Men’s Team Ministry to Your Widowed and Single Parents.

Want “High Impact”? Build a Home for the Neediest Family in Your Church

Yes, this can be done and has been done.

We had a single mother with three children attending a church I was the pastor of in Illinois. A team of four men in the church adopted this family, got her qualified for a Habitat for Humanity home, recruited and organized volunteers, and built her a three bedroom home.

Another example is Calvary Church Assembly of God in Marinette, Wisconsin. They also built a home for someone in their church who was in need. They split the process into stages, such as foundation, framing, roofing, etc., and raised money to complete each stage.

Do Disaster Restoration Work

After a massive tornado destroyed much of Joplin, Missouri, my teenage daughter and I joined up with a group of Christian men and traveled from Denver to Joplin for a few days of disaster restoration work on the home of someone who had been hit hard by the storm. It was some of the most meaningful work I’ve ever done and a wonderful bonding time with my daughter.

Adopt Your Local Rescue Mission and Help Them with Building Repair Projects

When I was in seminary, I was required to spend two nights in rescue missions in downtown Dallas. That opened my eyes to the amazing work rescue missions do. Consider calling up your local rescue mission and see if they need any help with projects. Exposing your men to the homeless and the work rescue missions do with them will show your men how the rest of the world lives.

When it comes to planning service projects, don’t be afraid of challenging your men. Just make sure your projects are biblical, meaningful, and effective.

A single mom and her fatherless child with their team of men

Since 2003 New Commandment Men’s Ministries has helped hundreds of churches throughout North America and around the world recruit teams of men who permanently adopt widows, single moms and fatherless children in their congregations for the purpose of donating two hours of service to them one Saturday morning each month. We accomplish this with a free training site called New Commandment Men’s Ministry Learn how to mobilize your men’s ministry to meet every pressing need in your church at newcommandment.org.
