If you’re like me, most men’s ministry leaders, whether you’re leading a national, regional, or local church men’s ministry, post on social media like Facebook and Twitter to get your message out.
But if you are not doing so, I suggest writing a blog as well. It’s a simple, effective and inexpensive way to get a more developed message out to your followers on a regular basis. We are, after all, in the business of communicating spiritual truth to men who live in a godless world. Your men need to know that you’ve got their back and haven’t forgotten them.
Here are some suggestions to help you get started:
- Decide how often you want to write your posts – once a month, once a week, twice a week, etc. – and then stick to it. Consistency is the key to blogging.
- Describe in one sentence what the focus of your blog will be.
- Brainstorm and list 100 ideas for potential blog posts that center around your focus.
- Get a WordPress account. You can write your posts directly on their site, or download their program and write your posts on your own site.
- Start by writing three articles you would like to send out. Keep them short (500-600 words) and to the point. Less is more in blogging.
- Post your articles at the regular interval you decided on and keep writing. Caution: Don’t wait until your articles are perfect to post them. Just do it. That’s the most important step.
- Get an email service provider, such as Constant Contact or Mail Chimp, and develop your email list from your ministry contacts.
- Now send a link to your posts in an email to your contacts. You can also post links to your blog on social media.
Easypeasy.
Of course, there’s a lot to learn when it comes to ministry on the Internet. I’ve been writing my blog for over three years now and I’m still learning. The key is to get started and keep at it.
P. S. If you start blogging, or are already doing so, put me on your contact list: herbreese@yahoo.com. I’d love to see how you are doing.

For the past sixteen years New Commandment Men’s Ministries has helped hundreds of churches throughout North American and around the world recruit teams of men who permanently adopt their widowed and single parents in their congregations for the purpose of donating two hours of service to them one Saturday morning each month. We accomplish this with a free training site called New Commandment Men’s Ministry
