One of the reasons men’s team ministry to their widowed and single parents has spread to so many hundreds of churches is because New Commandment Men’s Ministries has made it possible to start the ministry by simply purchasing our DVD and playing it. Over 90% of churches start the ministry this way with the result that one new church every four days begins a men’s team ministry.
There are, however, significant advantages for large churches to hold a live orientation. Here are six reasons why large churches should do one.
Large churches have large needs.
Typically, widows, widowers, single parents and others with long term needs make up 3% to 5% of a congregation. This means that a church with 10,000 members–not uncommon in today’s evangelical world–will have 300 to 500 people who need teams.
Large churches need maximum turnout for it’s men’s team ministry orientation.
To cover 300 to 500 care receivers with teams of 4 men, a church of 10,000 needs 1,200 to 2,000 men participating. Doing a live orientation draws far more men than simply playing a video.
(I get really excited when I think of hundreds of teams on hundreds of blocks in a city serving their widowed and single parents for years. What a testimony!)
Large churches sometimes need guidance on how to address other types of pressing needs, such as emergency needs and catastrophic needs.
Mega churches receive multiple calls for assistance daily. Besides helping these large churches meet the needs of their widowed and single parents, New Commandment can tailor a plan for them to effectively and efficiently address these other types of pressing needs as well.
Large churches have silo-ed ministries that need to be coordinated.
A mega church will typically have individual staff members dedicated to elder care, single parents, divorce recovery, men’s ministry, etc. Men’s team ministry to their widowed and single parents touches on all of these ministries and requires buy in from each staff member, often necessitating a personal touch from New Commandment.
Large churches have unique requirements.
Large churches need validation. They want to know that a ministry has a proven track record and will fit naturally into it’s overall vision and practice. An in-person consultation can accomplish this. Large churches also need unique modifications to the men’s team ministry model to accommodate the hundreds of men participating.
Large churches have large budgets.
For less than $100, any church can start a men’s team ministry that lasts for years. A live orientation is much more expensive. But for a large church with an annual budget in the millions of dollars, a live orientation is a relatively small expense and very affordable.

Blessings!! Am pastor of a middle church at Dominican Republic (Iglesia Cristiana Vida Abundante). I really want to know more about this ministry, because part of my calling is to work with men . In this moment there isn’t ministry working that area.
Our country has a high level of domestic abuse and orphanhood .
Javier, how wonderful to see you serving men in such a needy place. We provide some of our training material free of charge for churches outside of North America. Please follow this link to access it.
