A Tale of Two Impoverished Towns

Like many American Christians these days, I’ve been on a number of short term mission trips and consequently have seen a lot of poverty. But two mission trips stand out in my mind mainly because they took place within a year of each other and because they clearly illustrate two […]

My Tribute to Francis Schaeffer

I grew up in a schizophrenic culture. On the one hand, Los Angeles in the 60’s and 70’s marked ground zero for the dramatic social changes rocking the entire country. The Day Dad Wept

Dad had never wept before. Not even at Grandma Reese’s funeral. At least I had never seen him. So it came as quite a shock, the day Dad wept. To say that Dad was quiet and an introvert is putting it mildly. I’m quiet and introverted too. But I’m downright […]

Is Your Neighbor Loved by You or Just Bugged by You?

I’ve moved often over the years, both as a single man and while married. So I’ve collected a number of bad neighbor stories that inspire me to think about what it means to be a good–and bad–neighbor. Take the lout across the street from us who constantly yelled at his […]
